Who else absolutely loves this time of year solely for the fact that we all get to rock those soft, comfy, casual winter getups that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? I seriously can’t get enough! I know that this probably isn’t an overwhelmingly popular opinion, but I really prefer cozy winter getups to summer dressing. I just love bundling! Always have, always will. Which is why my casual-cool outfit loving heart has been absolutely living for the emergence of the “sherpa” trend. It used to be that sherpa and shearling garments and accessories were sort of relegated to the serious winter setting… set. Although always cool in my humble opinion, sherpa and shearling items definitely weren’t produced en masse like they are now! Over the last couple years, sherpa has become a bonafide trend, and though I don’t jump on board the trend bandwagon that often, I’m 100% obsessed with this one. I want to live in all things sherpa and have pretty much decided that the comfy-cozy sherpa life is the life I deserve. And so do you!
I haven’t done a casual style roundup in a while, and it only felt right to be honest about my love for sherpa and share all of my favorite sherpa and shearling finds for winter that are out there in the world right now because I’ve been clicking, loving, saving and pinning all things sherpa slightly obsessively as of late. Also, I just think you deserve more sherpa in your life this winter, whether it’s wrapping up in a softer than soft sherpa jacket or pullover or giving your feet the gift of sherpa to keep those toesies toasty and warm all winter long.
New to the wonders of sherpa? Have no fear. Let’s talk about what sherpa is exactly. Sherpa’s basically faux shearling, so it’s a super soft fabric made from polyester, acrylic, or cotton that’s supposed to mimic sheep’s wool. That said, though this roundup includes more sherpa than shearling finds, I decided to throw some shearling finds into the mix because there is so much coziness to be had with both and it all has the same snuggly vibe. I will say that for the most part I find sherpa items to be softer than shearling, and you probably will too, but it’s all a matter of preference. So there’s that. It should also be noted that there’s nothing, nothing in this world that Hamlet loves more than sherpa. Sherpa sherpa beds, sherpa dog jackets and smothering me when I happen to be wearing a sherpa garment, hence him refusing to leave my side in these snaps. What can I say… dog loves the luxe life!
The getup that I’m wearing here is pretty much the ensemble that I’ve been living in since Christmas and I plan to continue to live in it until Chris cuts me off and can’t stand it anymore, or I have to act like an adult and wear something other than leggings and an oversized sherpa zip-up. I dread such an occasion, but they, gotta get out there and face the music sometimes. The amount that I love this softer than soft, cozy, oversized sherpa half-zip pullover knows no bounds. C got it for me for Christmas knowing that I’d had my eye on it, and it’s probably the softest garment I own. The key is that the sherpa isn’t just on the outside, it’s on the inside, too which is crucial to it’s comfiness. When that sherpa hits your skin, it’s heaven. I usually wear an XS in tops, but I got this one in a Small, which perfectly covers my booty in leggings, which makes it more versatile for me. It doesn’t at all feel too big. I’ve also been wearing these shearling-lined suede sneaker-booties almost every day since the weather’s been pretty chilly here in Phoenix, and I absolutely love them. I searched and searched for the perfect pair of casual shearling-lined booties that I could wear when running around day to day, and these have completely delivered. Not only are they insanely comfortable and warm, but they’re polished enough to wear almost anywhere so you don’t have to leave the cozy at home for grown-up outings. And don’t even get me started on these leggings. Though they’re not sherpa, they have become part of my daily comfy winter uniform. I talked about these Athleta Elation 7/8 leggings at length on Instagram and about my year-long quest to test every brand of leggings out there and compare, and after much research I’ve come to the conclusion that these are the most comfortable, most flattering leggings of all time! All time. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve worn my share of leggings in my day. I live in them! I love that they’re slightly thicker than the Lululemon Align leggings so they’re not as revealing, their high-waisted, ankle fit is so flattering on pretty much everyone and the Powervita fabric (the key to the softness of this line of Athleta garments) is so soft, it literally feels like butter.
Now without further ado, below are some of my favorite sherpa and shearling pieces out in the world this winter, guaranteed to keep you cozy, snuggly and warm all season long! And there are more sherpa and shearling pieces to love in the widgets above and below, so there’s something comfy in there for everyone – from shoes to slippers to jackets to sweatshirts and more.
