Summer weddings are awesome. We had a late summer wedding in Michigan and it was absolutely incredible. But throughout the wedding planning process, I often wondered what a fall or winter wedding would be like, and thought about how much fun it would be to prepare for that! They are my two favorite seasons, after all. The rich color palettes, the fall and winter flowers and foliage, the moody, cozy weather setting the stage and of course the fashion. Oh, the fashion! Recently we had the privilege of attending the most stunning fall wedding for an equally stunning (and insanely adorable) couple, and we realized that not only would executing a fall or winter wedding be so much fun, but dressing as a guest for one was pretty fun, too!
Her: H&M Dress, Loft Belt (Old, Similar Here & Here), BP. Sandals (Sold Out, Love These & These), Lancome Lipstick in “Edgy”
Him: Zara Suit (Old, Similar Jacket Here & Pants Here), Hugo Boss Shirt (Sold Out, Similar Here & Here), Nordstrom Tie (Old, Similar Here & Here),
I love a good long sleeve dress in the fall and winter, and a wedding or of course any holiday-related celebration is the perfect time to break out a pretty long sleeve midi dress like the under-$40 one I have on here from H&M! I fell in love with the drapey detail on this flowy coral-colored beauty, and especially enjoyed the buttons on the cuffs of the long sleeves. Details, people. Details.

On the rack this dress wasn’t belted and didn’t really look like much hanging there, but I liked the length, sleeves and color so I decided to try it on and grabbed a random belt to see what that would look like. And I loved it. It has a little bit of a 70s vibe with the cut, detail and slightly high neckline, which I wouldn’t normally think I’d be into, but once I had this puppy on I was sold. It’s such an easy style and belted, I’m pretty sure this would look amazing on anyone! I think belting any midi or maxi dress like this is a great way to elevate the style and make it look a little bit more figure flattering, and who doesn’t love that?!
I already had this knotted leather Loft belt (sold out, but similar options I love here and here) and these matching leather block-heeled sandals from Nordstrom (also sold out, but these and these are super cute), so it was a pretty easy ensemble to throw together. I feel like I’ve never found as easy, budget-friendly or comfortable a wedding outfit as this one. I love it when that happens!
I paired a dark, berry-colored lip (Lancome Color Design Lipstick in ‘Edgy’) and nails with this dress because I think between those rich tones and the brown leather, this coral color transitions really well into the chillier season. In truth I just like the dark berry lips and nails with any outfit for fall, so I’ll grab at any excuse I can get to justify the obsession.
And who doesn’t love a man in a suit? Every time I see Chris in a suit I pretty much swoon and keel over like the lovestruck teenager that I totally am, and all is right in the world. I’m still not over it. Never will be. And there are two things that I think make this suit particularly versatile and awesome and perfect for wedding guest attire, in almost any season, for years to come.
The first is the cut. Guys, if you’re not on board with a slim cut suit yet, it’s time to jump on that bandwagon with confidence! An au currant cut goes such a long way in making a suit stay versatile and appropriate for any occasion for at least a few years. The second is the color. This blue hue is my absolute favorite color for a suit right now and can be worn with so many tie colors, prints and patterns in any season. Navy and black aren’t the only versatile suit colors, dudes. This pretty blue hue is flattering on just about any skin tone and I’ve seen more and more suits being made in this color.
This particular suit has served Chris really well and is one he scored at Zara a couple of seasons ago, but he also loves this affordable ASOS jacket and pant pairing or this extremely similar Todd Snyder jacket and pant pairing and of course, this slim fit H&M jacket and pant combo. So many options! Chris is also a fan of the tie/pocket square combo and I swear that every single time we’re out together and he has a pocket square in his jacket, at least one guy asks him either 1) where he got it or 2) how to fold it. Every. Single. Time. So don’t think that I don’t know how into each other’s fashion choices you dudes are! You can’t fight it!
If you’re lazy, you can just grab one of these coordinating pocket square/tie clip/tie box sets that Nordstrom has or if you’re feeling brave, you can mix and match on your own with one of these perfect pocket squares and a floral tie like Chris’ like this one or this one.
