Now you guys already know by now that fall is high on our list of favorite things in life. Yes, Chris too. The dude loves fall and he’s not afraid to say it! And as we’re sure is the case for so many of you guys out there, one of the our favorite ways to celebrate the arrival of the season we love so much is by adding a few cozy, simple, fun fall decor items to the mix around our house. Hygge, people. Hygge!
But one of the things we struggle with when it comes to seasonal home decor, of all kinds really, is finding festive decor that brings in the season without being overly kitschy or loud or intrusive to the simple, relaxed, cohesive vibe we’ve tried to create with the existing decor in our home. And fall is certainly no exception to that. Every year we find ourselves wading through the sea of glittery pumpkins, straw scarecrows and burlap wreaths to find those few fall decor items that cozy up our home with the sights, textures and scents of fall without splattering pumpkin spice latte all over the walls and making it rain corn husks.
Please tell us that some of you struggle with this, too! We love celebrating the season in our home and adjusting some of our decor to do it, but we need simple. We need stylish. We need understated. We’ve worked too hard to create a house that feels like home and isn’t filled with intense amounts of unnecessary clutter to throw it all away on a few reclaimed wood signs and pine cone topiaries! Nope. Can’t do it. And don’t worry, we’re not going all Todd and Margo on you and throwing a wet blanket on this lovely season with modern, soulless, sterile rigidity. Not at all! Quite the opposite. All we’re asking for is some festive decor that feels stylish, simple and like something we might have in our home year-round.
Last year, you guys loved our Fall Home Decor Favorites post, and we tried to do the same thing with that roundup that we’re bringing you today — the best of the best of fall-ready decor items that are cozy, stylish, simple and understated enough to fit right in with the rest of you design scheme throughout your home so you can enjoy and celebrate the season, sans tchotchke overwhelm.

And there are a few rules I live by when searching for the perfect simple, understated fall home decor that still oozes those comfy-cozy fall vibes. One of the first things I focus on is color palette. I love that rich fall color palette, but not every fall color that I love looks awesome in our home. So I stick with the more soft, muted, natural colors that stand out and blend in in all the best ways like grey, navy, black, white, terra cotta, blush and sage and even some metallics like copper and gold, too. I love these white apple and pear figurines with gold accents, these pretty grey and white check napkins, these white and grey wool pumpkins and these black and white painted vases. All great options in a more natural, muted fall color palette.
The next thing I focus on is texture. There are so many textures that can warm up a space and make it feel cozy and like fall in a simple, subtle way and for that I love natural textures like woven seagrass, warm raw wood and wool. Those are all such cozy textures that can instantly add a little fall warmth to any room. I’ve been loving this multifunctional woven seagrass tray for fall that makes for a perfect drop zone or tabletop decor organizer, this cute dotted terra cotta pot, this gorgeous faux hide rug, this chunky knit blanket, these quilted velvet throw pillows, and this chunky knit fringe pillow.
And of course, another simple, subtle home decor move that we swear by when we want to bring fall into our home every year is scents scents scents! Who doesn’t love a good fall scent? C’mon… don’t deny it. You know you love it and we promise this is a safe space where you can share your love for fall scents and without judgment! We think that scents do as much to celebrate a season as sights do and the inclusion of a great fall candle, oil or room spray is a beautifully subtle way to get festive without the overkill. Side note: shoutout to all of the amazing candle purveyors out there that keep it simple, elegant and beautiful with their vessels so they blend right in with our home decor. There’s nothing worse than coming across a scent that you can’t live without in a vessel that you just can’t live with. Can’t do it! Cannot. Do. It. This year I’m loving this heavenly coffee and spice candle, this perfectly fall-smelling pumpkin clove candle, this apple and oakmoss candle that comes in the most gorgeous mercury glass vessel and this gorgeous metal and glass candle holder that you can fill with so many different fall things and obviously, great fall candlesticks.
So how are you guys feeling about the fall decor this year or seasonal decor in general? Do you just throw caution to the wind and go all in on the glitter pumpkins and corn husks or are you more into the simple and understated fall home decor vibes? Tell us all about in the comments below because obviously, this is a discussion we need to have! Happy fall-ing, friends!
