A new week is here, and I have to say that I love the fresh perspective Monday brings. I know Mondays aren’t exactly everyone’s favorite day of the week, but after a genuinely restful, relaxing weekend indulging in things that I just plain enjoy without any deadlines or expectations, like sleep, fixing up old furniture and tons of snuggles with my man Hamlet and some quality time checking in with my hubby’s heart, Monday really becomes a fresh start in every sense of the phrase.

And speaking of fresh starts, the arrival of spring has just pumped all of this renewed energy into me and I’ve been so filled with ideas about places and people I want to see, things I want to accomplish, projects I want to take on, books I want to read, things I love and want more of, and ways I want and need to grow, which I have to say is pretty awesome. Does anyone else feel and extra pep in their step this spring? I think we’ve all had a pretty long, tumultuous winter so to speak, but I’m sure all you East Coasters that have been battling less than friendly weather for months on end definitely get that burst of energy once the clouds part for the winter and that spring sun starts shining through!
So today I thought I’d bring a little… or a lot of those fresh spring vibes into your lives and fill your eyes with some of the gorgeous blooms that are popping up everywhere in our neighborhood and get a head start on offering some outfit inspiration for your Easter activities next week, or any of the other handful of spiffed-up spring events that pop up everywhere this time of year like baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties and so many other fun things!
And part of that renewed spring energy I talked about is stepping outside of my normal uniform this season and trying some new fun pieces in my wardrobe, like this scalloped-hem skort which was yet another Zara score (their stuff is just so good this season) that I’m so excited to have in my arsenal because it’s the perfect piece for dressing up or down all spring and summer long, and I love the gingham and eyelet detail. Two of my favorite things in one! I can’t remember the last time I wore a “skort”, and historically I’ve never really known where I stood on the whole skort thing, but I think I’ve now realized that it’s a pretty awesome thing that as a grown woman I reserve the right to wear the mullet of the women’s fashion world and be totally comfortable with it. It’s all skirt business in the front, and a shorts party in the back, and it’s simply the best! This particular skort was especially perfect because I love the high, paper bag waist and again, all of the darling design details mixed together.
For this particular day, I decided to dress the skort up a little bit because Chris and I were lucky enough to sneak in a little Sunday day date before he headed to the restaurant yesterday and we wanted to step it up for each other, so throwing on this breezy white blazer I found on Tobi (the split-back that ties is so fun!) and one of my favorite white lace tops (I wore it in our engagement photos last year HERE) was a great way to make it more “polished” than “picnic”. And even though I’m definitely throwing this on with a tank and sandals and going casual in my mullet-skort any chance I get, I realized that this look would be the perfect Easter outfit and in turn the perfect outfit for hitting the baby shower circuit too. See… mullets are so versatile!
On a side note, we got the chance to stop at Doughbird, the new restaurant that just opened its doors right around the corner from our house in Phoenix, and it was absolutely gorgeous! The interior is like something out of my decor daydreams – it’s light, bright, airy and so inviting, with warm, natural details everywhere and the prettiest green leather bar chairs and beautiful encaustic cement tiles on the floor to match.
And the food… don’t even get me started on the food! As the name indicates, this place is all about the dough and the bird… pizza and rotisserie chicken! It may sound like an odd couple, but I promise you it’s perfection. We had the brussels sprout pizza and the chicken with a few different sauces, with a side of the mac n’ cheese and it was heaven. Every bite was delicious, which is exactly what you’d expect from a Fox Restaurant, so if you live in Phoenix or are visiting soon, I highly recommend this place. We were so impressed! I hope everyone’s week gets off to a great start today and here’s to bringin’ back the skort!
