Our Furniture Collection Celebrating Calico’s 70th Anniversary!

I hope everyone that celebrated Turkey Day here in the U.S. had the most wonderful, relaxing holiday! We’re so incredibly grateful for all of you, so thanks for being here with us today and always. We love you! To say that today is an exciting day is the understatement of the century. I’ll never be able to properly express my excitement over today’s post because I never, in my wildest dreams thought that I’d get to do something this fun and fulfilling with people I adore so much and have the privilege of sharing it with you guys, my kindred spirits! I’m humbled beyond measure to tell you guys that as part of Calico’s 70th Anniversary, I was given the opportunity to create my very own collection of furniture that includes 10 unique pieces that I love with every single ounce of my being and are such a true representation of all that I adore in home decor and design… and I hope you guys love them, too!

To give you a little background about this project, to mark its 70th anniversary this year Calico has partnered with designers to envision 70 one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. Using Calico furniture frames with distinctive fabrics from their collections, Vern Yip, Justina Blakeney, Madcap Cottage, Stacy Garcia, Thom Filicia, the Robert Allen design team and now yours truly have created unique collections which can be easily adapted to fit your own style, thanks to Calico’s super helpful and fun C360 visualization tool (this tool is like a design lover and dreamer’s playground). The program allowed the designers (and allows shoppers) to select furniture frames and pair them with thousands of fabrics and trims, plus a choice of wood finishes (love having the ability to choose my preferred finish), and then to see it from all angles, even spinning the frame 360º. I know. I know. Does life get any better than this? And if you’re thinking to yourself, “Man that sounds like a lot of fun!” you’d be absolutely right. I’m just going to be totally honest and say that I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun working on a project. Ever. This collection is all of my design and decor dreams come true, and creating it was every bit as fun as all you design lovers out there could imagine.

The entire collection was inspired by Scandinavian farmhouse design (our favorite), pairing fabrics in shades of blues, grays and aquas with my favorite Calico frames. I chose hard-working performance fabrics, stripes, buffalo checks and toiles and paired them with stylish frames to create 10 memorable, unique pieces to love – all made in the USA of the highest quality and all an incredible value!

And speaking of fun, that’s exactly what I and the amazing team at Calico wanted these pieces to be. As you know, in our house if the design and decor isn’t fun, personal and oh-so-cozy it just doesn’t feel right. So we wanted every piece to be a little bit funky, a whole lot of fun and the collection to be full of lively pieces that stand out… and blend right in… in the best way. The most interesting and character-filled pieces in our home are always the pieces that stick around the longest, moving from room to room and function to function, and really make our house a home. And I hope that for some of you, one of these pieces will find its way into your home and subsequently your family’s story, too.

As you guys know, I’ve had the absolute honor and pleasure to partner with Calico over the course of the last year and it’s been a dream come true every step of the way. I didn’t think I could love Calico any more than I did before we started collaborating, but as I’ve come to have a more intimate understanding of Calico’s ethos and the incredible people behind the brand, my love for what they do and who they are has grown immeasurably. When we started collaborating, the goal was simple — inspire all of you design lovers and dreamers out there to think outside the design and decor box, breathe new life into old gems, find meaning and purpose in new pieces, and curate a home of treasures that tell your story. Today that goal remains the same, and from our hearts to yours we sincerely hope you find that in this collection that celebrates Calico’s 70-year history of encouraging those things in everything they do.

I think we’re all aware that in this life, you might not always connect with the people you’re working with or for, but when you do, thats when the magic happens. When you have the unique ability to let your wildest creative dreams, your heart, your soul explode and the people around you welcome it. They embrace it. They foster it. They add to and enhance it. That, my friends, is the magic that fuels this blog, and the magic I’ve found with the incredibly kind, creative, warm, inviting, supportive team at Calico. And that’s what we hope you see and feel in this collection and in turn, what we hope finds its way into your home.

Ok Ok let’s get down to the nitty gritty, here. Do I have a favorite piece? It’s almost impossible for me to choose! Seriously — my mom asked and I tried! I really did. I went back and forth from piece to piece professing my love for each frame and fabric combination for about 30 minutes, which is way more conversation on the topic than I think she was ready for, but that’s what moms are for, right?! Right. But if I had to choose, if I absolutely had to in order to save the world (with The Rock by my side hanging off of a helicopter or something), then it might have to be the Barlow Loveseat in that gorgeous Mener La Mer fabric. I just can’t get enough of that perfectly cottage-farmhouse-cozy loveseat frame paired with that dreamy aqua/seafoam check fabric! It’s one of those pieces that I could see in my home and my life for decades and beyond, that would find its way into every room of the house throughout its life.
