Today’s affordable spring style post is brought to you by my intense fear of trying casual, high-waisted, wide-leg cropped pants for the first time and deciding to go all in and let you guys in on the experience (I’ve tried a dressy style before here). No seriously, we’re all in this together so let’s hold hands and pray to the fashion gods that you don’t think I look ridiculous because these pants/trousers/coulottes/whatever are about as comfy as my perfect, cloud-like bed and I may never take them off! Also it’s almost Cinco de Mayo so… let’s spice things up!

Chris also wanted to show you guys one of his go-to easy, casual, but slightly elevated spring ensembles that he’s worn on repeat as of late, and that he’s actually been wearing both to work and on the weekend, so bonus points to him for the spot-on versatility!

I’ve been wanting to tackle the whole casual high-waisted, wide-leg crop trend for a while now, but after about a year of searching, putting different pairs in my cart, chickening out, wondering if I’d look like some sort of weird clown person, etc. I felt like I finally found the right thing courtesy of these amazingly soft slightly green, slightly khaki wide-leg crops with a cute tie waist from H&M. Truth be told, an affordable find was pretty much the only way I was going to dive head first into this trend and feel happy about it, which when I really think about it pretty much sums up my entire approach to trying trends. Cute, comfortable, affordable. Boom!
So do I love these? Yes, I love them. The waist is a perfectly flattering high-rise height, I absolutely adore the tie at the waist, the color goes with pretty much every top in my closet, the length of the crop sits just above my ankle (not too high) which is hard to find and right where I want it to be, they’re the softest of soft cotton fabric and the width of the wide leg isn’t too overpowering or obnoxious. If you’re thinking about trying this trend or are just looking for a great pair of easy, breezy spring and summer pants to bop around in, I highly recommend these.
Side notes about my top and shoes — this airy linen blend Anthropologie tank is so fun and I have to say that neither I nor my sister, who also has this top, agree with the reviews that say that the fit is strange. I think it fits perfectly, and it looks great tucked in or left out with a little swing/room to breathe. It fits perfectly in the armpits and neck, and I feel it runs true to size. I’m also pretty obsessed with these new black fringed raffia slides I picked up and love love love the fun black pom balls on top. I’ve been wearing them every chance I get and am so excited to wear them pretty much every day through summer.
And if you’re wondering what it is about Chris’ outfit that he loves so much, I’m pretty sure that it’s the dark denim and the light leather sneakers. He’s been wearing these jeans nonstop since he got them and he loves the casual, comfortable fit/cut and the dark, raw denim wash. And I do too! I seriously love a dude in dark denim and it pairs perfectly with pretty much anything and elevates any casual look. If your office is slightly casual like Chris’ is, the dark wash is perfect because it looks a little bit more polished than a standard, lighter wash and just elevates the style. Translation: ya look on casual Friday instead of looking like you should be wearing a pager and hitting the Catalina Wine Mixer. Chris has also been on the hunt for a lighter leather sneaker for spring and summer so he can give the brown and black a rest for a minute, and he was so pumped that he found just what he was looking for in his favorite Ted Baker leather sneaker style, the Kiing.
Truth be told when Chris told me that he wanted a light or white leather sneaker for spring/summer, I was skeptical. Just like I was about a casual, high-waisted, wide-leg cropped pant, but now I’m a total believer! Why am I so style skeptical lately? A crisis I’ll ponder at length during my next shower.
So, are you guys into the high-waisted, wide-leg cropped pant trend? Are you cool with lighter or white leather sneakers on a dude? Would you rock them at work? Let us know in the comments and one more important thing — Happy Cinco de Mayo! Have fun and be safe out there this weekend!
I love that top! It’s a great piece to transition from spring through fall.
I love how you they look on you!! I’m also afraid to try cropped wide legs. I can do mid calf, but ankle length scares me. I should try it though now that I see them on you! XO ~Anna http://www.pepperedinstyle.com
