Happy belated Valentine’s Day, guys! I hope you all had a fun day yesterday indulging in all of the things you love – I can’t get enough of the hearts, flowers, sweet treats, pink, etc. so I was pretty much in heaven. But as soon as Valentine’s Day passes, my mind is set on spring and it’s definitely looking like spring here in Phoenix right now which you can see from the pics in today’s post!
When it comes to personal style, I can be a little bit of a creature of habit. Can’t we all? That’s what makes personal style so fun, right? Even is it’s not necessarily cool or au currant or loved by all, you love it, and that’s what makes your personal style so awesome! Trends may come and go and I’m all about dabbling in a trend or seven when something fun comes along, but there are tons of style staples and color palettes that have become mainstays in my wardrobe for many moons, and that you can expect me to be wearing and loving no matter the season or year.

Chambray paired with white denim or black pants and suede booties is one such beloved combo, anything in the pastel color palette and especially in the spring and summer, great denim paired with feminine white eyelet tops. There’s something so casually cool, comfortable and effortlessly relaxed about good lived-in denim topped with an easy, breezy white eyelet top and it’s pretty much perfect for any and every casual spring occasion. It just puts me in that fresh spring mood and begs to be worn walking around barefoot in the backyard, sipping a fresh cocktail and listening to Ben Howard. In my dreams, at least.
Clearly this spring isn’t the season that I’m shaking my love for that combo because when I saw this under-$50 white ruffled eyelet top at Zara I beelined it over to the rack and knew it had to come home with me (I’m wearing a small & typically wear an XS/S in tops). I’ve also been trying to mix it up on the denim front for spring with some fresh new styles to add to my arsenal that aren’t the Levi’s Wedgie Icon. I have that style in 4 different washes and have paired them with pretty much every top in my closet almost ever day for the last year, so it was time to breathe new life into my denim selection, no?
After tons and tons of searching and a painstaking amount of time in the dressing rooms at Nordstrom, J.Crew, Madewell, etc. I fell in love with this relaxed, high-waisted, slightly boyfriend-y straight leg style from Madewell called the High Rise Slim Boyjean. The waist is super high, but really comfortable, the wash is a nice medium-tone blue with just the right amount of fade, the length is perfect for one easy roll and I love the straight leg vs. something a little bit tighter around the knee and ankle or on the flip side, something much looser and more boyfriend-y.
I also grabbed the Cali Demi Boot Jeans while I was there because I really wanted to try something drastically different than what I was used to wearing and the cropped flare was definitely stepping out for me. The high waist on those is such a flattering height, they fit really well in the tush area (always high on my list of denim fit priorities) and the cropped flare will be so much fun in the spring and summer with sandals or sneakers. It’s a little retro, and I’m into it! I’ll style those on the blog soon so you can see what they look like on a normal chick like me instead of the leggy, perfectly proportioned Madewell model. Girl, please!
If you’re looking for great denim to slip into this spring, as you know I encourage a high rise style because let’s face it, they hold it all in and as the hems of tops get more and more cropped, it gets harder and harder to pair them with the low rise denim styles of yore. Higher waist = more versatility! In addition to the two Madewell styles I linked to above, I’m also loving this cleaner Levi’s Wedgie Icon style, the Mother High Waisted Looker Ankle Fray, the GRLFRND Karolina High Rise Skinny and for all you classic gals out there, the Joe’s Bella Super High Rise Skinny Ankle and the J.Crew Highest Rise Toothpick Jean.

So simple, yet so pretty at the same time. Couldn’t agree more with the high rise jeans – great tip 🙂

You look casual yet comfortable. The eyelid blouse is a great complement to the jeans, but your smile makes the outfit! 😀

Awww thanks, girl! You’re the absolute sweetest! The sandals I have on are actually old from Zappos and sadly not avail. anymore, but the Stuart Weitzmans are almost identical! But because I don’t have them I can’t speak to their level of comfort, but they look pretty comfy! I can only assume they are. But if you get them let me know! LOVE that they’re avail. on Amazon because that = easy returns if they’re not awesome! 🙂
