Our New Master Bedroom Headboard: Home Depot Seagrass Headboard
Why does it feel like we’ve updated this master bedroom of ours about 1000 times? Oh, because we have! I’ve recently come to the long overdue realization that the master bedroom is one of those rooms in our home that I’m obsessed with fussing over until it feels just right. Which means it’s always evolving. It makes me so happy to have a place to snuggle up in at night and in the morning that’s cozy and inviting and a little slice of heaven on Earth. But that’s totally subjective. I’ve noticed over the years that what makes a bedroom perfect is so different for everyone, which is why I have so much fun seeking and finding fresh bedroom design and decor inspiration year after year. Everyone approaches it differently, and that’s such a fun thing to explore and absorb!

So today, I thought I’d talk about something that, much to my surprise, seems to be one of the most-loved topics when it comes to bedroom design and decor and also seems to be some something that people have a lot of fun with when designing bedroom spaces – headboards! Over the years we’ve reworked this one old wood headboard in our master bedroom a few times, and you can see that evolution here and here. Those remain two of our most visited posts here on the blog, and we hope that means that those DIY headboard makeovers gave you some good inspiration for DIYing your way to a headboard you love!
That old headboard had a good run, a great run in fact, but for a while now I’ve been feeling like there could be a better fit for our master bedroom. A headboard that wasn’t quite so big and bulky (that thing weighed a ton) and was a little bit more simple and streamlined to give the space a cozier, more grounded vibe. I thrive in simplicity, so adding a centerpiece to the bedroom that was simple, but had texture and tone to make the room feel cozy and warm felt like it would be an easy and welcome upgrade! In the end, this is the one we chose, and we couldn’t be more in love! Simple, streamlined and cozy. We have a little adjustment to do with the art on the nightstands and some other styling updates, but so far, it’s awesome (and awesomely affordable – the queen size is on sale for $150 right now).
Of course, as I hunted for the perfect headboard for the space, I had a few of our usual requirements – it had to be affordable, it had to be at least a little bit fun and I wanted it to be made out of some sort of natural material to ground our space, like seagrass, wicker, cane or the like. Naturally, along the way I fell in love with about a million different headboards, and even entertained completely dropping the whole natural material thing in lieu of something upholstered and possibly in a fun print. I was all over the map and I think that’s because our house is kind of a mix of a few of the cottage styles we all know and love, so in each space we can really add elements of all of those to mix it up – a little bit English country cottage, a little bit cozy desert cottage, and a little bit coastal cottage.
In light of the fact that I loved so many headboards I stumbled upon, I thought it would be really fun to round up my favorite affordable cottage style headboards out there on the interwebs, just in case you’re on the hunt for the perfect headboard to jazz up your bedroom. It really can become the centerpiece of a bedroom in the best way, especially if you have a pretty muted or neutral palette throughout the rest of the room, and that goes double if your home is all about that eclectic, lively cottage charm. It’s such a great opportunity to throw off those bowlines and go wild!

You’ll probably notice that included in my roundup are a healthy range of headboard styles, and that’s because I think cottage style is entirely dependent on kind of cottage we’re talkin’ about – it takes many forms. I included fun, upholstered floral-patterned options that speaks to that classic, romantic English country cottage style, natural textures and materials like seagrass (like the one we chose for our bedroom), cane and wicker that would be perfect for really any variety of cozy, charming cottage and playfully-colored metal headboards that have a decidedly and delightfully vintage feel that pairs perfectly with a farmhouse-cottage-inspired space or really any cottage home with a vintage, collected vibe. But make no mistake – you kind of can’t go wrong. I think the foundation of cottage charm is the collected, playful nature of the decor pieces that make up the spaces, so I say mix and match and have a little fun!
