You guys ask for it, we deliver it. That’s how it works here in the fun world of Love + Specs! A couple of weeks ago I did a poll on Instagram Stories and asked if you guys would rather see more holiday style and outfits for men and women on the blog in the lead up to the holidays, or if you’re over all of that holiday hype and would rather see more general winter style on here. And you know what happened? You awesome readers of ours were split right down the middle, 50/50! And not only that, but I think that poll garnered more responses than any other poll I’ve conducted on my Instagram Stories, so the passion was real for this topic. Which is why we love you guys! You’re here for it, and we couldn’t be more pumped about that.

So in light of our little 50/50 split, we decided that we’ll do exactly that here on the blog. This month we’ll bring you a little bit of holiday style, some general winter outfit inspiration and of course tons of gift guides in between to make sure we’re giving all of you exactly what you want and not leaving anyone out. Cool? Cool. So today, we thought we’d take a break from really holiday-specific style and offer some inspiration for all of that travel you’ll be doing in the coming weeks, hopefully to colder, cozier, more winter-like climates to help you fully immerse yourselves in this snowy season!
It’s still relatively warm here in Phoenix during the day, but the evenings and mornings are getting chillier and chillier. I even got to break out the hat, mittens and a cozy scarf in the evening over the weekend while we ventured out on a little citrus-spotting walk around our neighborhood. Winter is citrus season here in the Valley of the Sun, so all of the citrus trees in our neighborhood are starting to show really colorful, beautiful fruit right now and smell absolutely heavenly. For all of the complaining I do about the brown, dusty desert landscape here in Phoenix, I have to say that when citrus season hits, it’s pretty magical.
One of the things we both love so much about winter style for men and women is that it lets us wear cozy, casual cold weather outfits and mix in some fun, not-so-typical winter colors that brighten up the mood while keeping us bundled up. I love a good dark, moody winter color palette, but I think there’s something so uplifting and awesome about sporting some brighter, more fun hues when you’re layering up in the winter and trudging your way through darker and shorter days!
This blush pink blanket scarf from Anthropologie is the softest, most snuggly scarf I’ve ever owned, and it comes in a ton of other great colors, too. This would be a great travel scarf because it could double (triple?) as a plane blanket and even a little pillow. Yep, I’m totally not afraid to bunch up a scarf and use it as a little pillow on a plane. Options, people. Options. And I don’t think I’ve ever loved a hat and mitten set any more than I love these fun and funky lime and blush pink mittens and this coordinating pom beanie. The mittens are fleece-lined and the hat is so soft… on my head… because that matters. In all seriousness, when I shop and add items to my wardrobe during the dry winter months, the softness of the fabrics I’m wearing is a major priority. If it’s not soft against my skin, it just sits in my closet. And long sleeved tees like this light, ultra soft ribbed mock neck number from Anthropologie is something I’ll be packing and wearing all winter long. They also have an identical boat neck version that’s pretty perfect, too! This tee is great on its own, but it’s also the perfect layering piece under little jackets and scratchier sweaters.
And can we talk about Chris’ cute gingham shirt with elbow patches (the red version is fun for holiday)? OK so he’s probably going to kill me when he finds out I just called his elbow patches cute, but whatever. Come at me, Chris! But seriously, I love that so many men’s brands have been embracing elbow patches for winter (like this one and this one that we love). It’s such a cool, rugged (is that macho enough, CC?) look and it’s the perfect way to integrate a little bit more “winter” flair into your wardrobe. And those navy leather Cole Haan sneakers he’s wearing were such a good find. Chris is all about a good leather sneaker, and you should be, too! For both men and women it’s a great way to get the polished-casual look in the fall in winter without having to wear serious, heavy boots.

These outfits are so pretty, I love the pink scarf so much!
Winter here we can get to minus 40 below so having several different good hats and gloves is very important. Big fan of scarves to wrap around us.
My husband told me just last week, "I hate elbow patches and plaid." I think I’m going to have to have him change his mind.
The scarf looks so warm & cozy!
It’s SO warm and soft, Whit! It’s my favorite winter accessory at the moment. I love oversized scarves. Thanks for stopping by!
A leather sneaker! I’ve never considered but may need to!
Leather sneakers are the best, Nancy! A fun way to stay comfortable with your footwear, but look a little bit polished, too! Thanks for stopping by!
So cute! I love that scarf and I know my husband would love the gingham shirt with elbow patches.
I love that your hubs would love Chris’ shirt, Ayanna! It’s such a fun way to do a button down in winter. Happy holidays!
the hat and gloves look super warm!
They’re SO soft and warm, Lauren! I’ve been loving wearing them any chance I get. Thanks for commenting!
Y’all are both gorgeous and so are these looks! I need that shirt for my husband- I LOVE the elbow patches and your scarf looks amazing! Also, I would never have picked such a bold color for my own hat and mittens BUT you have me rethinking that, the color is so fun and totally works with the pastel shades!
Oh my gosh Brittney you’re too kind! You totally need Chris’ shirt for your husband – I feel like any guy can pull it off and it’s great for work of weekend wear. And I’m so excited that you’re loving the color combo of my hat and the mittens – it’s a little bit funky and not a classic color choice, and it makes me so happy! Thanks for stopping by!
I LOVE those mittens!! I must get me some!!
You totally need these, Kristine! They’re so warm (they’re fleece on the inside) and I love the cute color combo! Happy holidays!
So jealous of the warm Phoenix weather! My kids and I just spent the morning out in the 30-degree weather and I DEFINITELY didn’t look this cute haha 😉
We do feel pretty lucky to have this nice weather right now! It has been getting pretty chilly at night and in the morning, but the sunny days really to keep it nice and warm. Stay warm out there, Julie!
I love love love that scarf – so luxurious and pretty! I’m also pretty jealous of citrus season. We can’t grow much (any!) citrus in Kentucky.
Thanks, Alexandra! The citrus really is beautiful, but I can’t even imagine how much beautiful the flowers and trees are in Kentucky! I can only imagine that it’s green everywhere!
This is so cute! I love these his and hers outfit ideas!
Thank you so much, Mary! Happy holidays!
Cute looks! I miss wearing cozy hats now that I live in a warm climate. I can live vicariously through you though 🙂
I totally miss bundling up now that I don’t live in Michigan, Julie – which is something I never thought I’d miss! This is about as bundled as I’ll need to be here in Phoenix this winter, but I’ll take it! Super jealous of where you live though!

Your hat, scarf and mittens are so cute! It doesn’t really look cold where you are though. LOL.
I’m so glad you love them, Rachel! They’re so fun! It’s pretty warm during the day here, but it gets down into the low 40s in the evening/night/morning. So once that sun starts to set, the hat and mittens are out – mostly because I get cold SO easily! 😉
Love the outfits are both men and women! The elbow patches on his plaid shirt are a fun detail. Also, loving your scarf and hat.
Lee
Thanks so much, Lee! The scarf and hat are SO cozy – they’re bee so cute on you!
I’ll admit that any sense of fashion goes out the window when it gets cold outside! I hate the cold, but this year I decided to have a little more fun with my wardrobe! I love how everything is so neutral with the pop of green.
Love this look with the coordinating pink and green! That scarf is to die for, I need it. My hubs would love the man’s clothes too, they’re right up his alley. Time to shop a bit!
I have a ton of friends who live down in AZ and I see them making fresh squeezed (squozen?) lemonade this time of year and it makes me jealous! Also, I love the blush scarf. It’s a perfect wintery color.

I love the color of your hat and mittens!
I was just thinking that I need more cold weather clothing. I live in Florida, but this year we had a cold snap. I wasn’t really sure how to look pulled together with just a few sweats in my closet. Time to go shopping. Thanks for the suggestions.
I love the light green with the light pink. It’s such a fresh combo! Also fun seeing citrus fruit in winter. When you live in Canada, there’s not much green (or yellow) this time of year!
